Healing Testimony
The day before a family trip to Mexico, Vanessa began to feel unwell. Old feelings of hurt and resentment toward some family members also began to surface. Seeking to find healing and feel free from pain, she turned to a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support.
Words from a Christian Science hymn reminded her that she didn’t have to remain captive to either physical discomfort or emotional pain, because God was there. Watch the video to hear how turning to God brought healing, freedom, and renewed love.
Free from Pain

At Christmastime, I had planned to travel to Mexico to visit with extended family, which I was really excited to do. But the day before the trip, I felt very unwell. So I decided to call a Christian Science Practitioner — someone who prays with you to seek healing through prayer. The practitioner shared a really lovely idea from the Christian Science Hymnal that reads:
O dreamer, leave thy dreams for joyful waking, O captive, rise and sing, for thou art free; The Christ is here, all dreams of error breaking, Unloosing bonds of all captivity.

Certainly, at that moment, I did feel captive by not feeling well. I also recognized I had been feeling some negative thoughts and feelings for some family members who were being quite unkind and unjust with my immediate family and me. So I recognized I was carrying a bunch of pain and hurt. The hymn helped me recognize that I didn’t have to be captive, that Christ was with me, ready to dissolve whatever chains were captivating me.
So I started to get rid of all of the negative thoughts and feelings I had been thinking. It was so freeing because instead of ruminating on those thoughts, I was starting to focus on how each of them were children of God. I was able to see them as loving and caring and righteous, and that also helped me to be loving and caring and righteous in my thinking.
On the day of the trip, I was able to go and take part in all the festivities and family gatherings that were planned for that week. I was also healed of the hardness of heart I had been feeling for a few family members. Being able to let go of and heal that was huge. Free from pain, I was able to feel the love that God was providing not just for me, but for them. With that, I was able to move on and have a really wonderful experience with my family.
