Christian Science Churches joined in a celebration of the 2023 National Day of Prayer at a breakfast sponsored by the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council. This annual event was kicked off by the American Boys Choir.
After remarks by local officials, the Rt. Reverend Alexei Smith, a Greek Catholic priest with the reputation of building bridges between faith traditions, gave the main address linked to the year’s theme “Prayer for Healing in a Troubled World.” A bountiful buffet breakfast delivered welcome opportunities for conversation and camaraderie that were enjoyed by all.

The next breakfast scheduled on May 2, 2024 will be hosted at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach. This year the keynote speaker will be Pastor Ivan Pitts, Pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Santa Ana, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. The theme this year is “Prayers for Healing in a Broken World.” Save the date and come enjoy the program along with meeting members and leaders of the faith communities located throughout this area.
In addition, please visit the website nmiinterfaithcouncil.org and click on More, then Video Archive and enjoy a YouTube video on the topic of “Herstory” (from a Women’s History Month video) which features five examples of women from faith communities. The first topic is Christianity represented by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
