Participants were treated to the backstories of the Climate Generation team from The Christian Science Monitor that was sent around the world for eight months funded by The Monitor with support from the Pulitzer Center. The Climate Generation Project event was hosted by the Christian Science Reading Room in Newport Beach on Thursday, January 18th at the Newport Beach Civic Center.

The focus was on the individual experiences of the panel as they met solution-oriented members of the so-called Climate Generation (those born following 1989) in the various locations. The panel was composed of the Senior Editor on the project, Clara Germani, along with Staff Writer, Sara Miller Llana and photographer, Melanie Stetson Freeman. As they told their stories, the audience was treated to dramatic pictures showing the Arctic Circle, Namibia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Portugal, and the state of Montana.
The attendees then asked a variety of thoughtful, inquiring questions that expanded the conversation. Following the panel and Q&A, there were refreshments and extended informal conversations with the panel. Response cards indicated hearty support for similar events in the future. The audience was estimated to be 70% Christian Scientists and 30% from the “public” based on the reservations list. There were members of the press, educational institutions, the business community, a representative from the Pulitzer Center and, of course, many others.
