Volunteers from the Christian Science Church in Irvine-Laguna Hills staffed a booth at the Irvine Global Village Festival at the Irvine Great Park, an annual event celebrating the community’s cultural diversity that drew thousands of visitors.

The booth had nametag stickers with “I [heart] my neighbors” in a stencil font for coloring in
the letters – an activity for children or adults.
We handed out 50-60 stickers, mostly to children. About half of the children colored their stickers and drew on our poster board. A mother and 2 children loved the message on the stickers…the children enjoyed coloring them, and their mother remarked that she would share the message of loving our neighbor with her co-workers.
Loving our neighbors at Global Village Festival
Many adults were drawn to our booth based on curiosity about Christian Science in general and/or intrigued by the title of Mrs. Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (S&H). These conversations typically led to handing them pamphlets, notecards, bookmarks, periodicals, and/or even copies of S&H (7) and The Bible (1).
It was a great opportunity for our church to participate and witness the activity of the Christ blessing our community.
At different times, I was asked about S&H. One man said, “I need this book!”, the other said, “May I have a copy?”. Each received a copy!
A boy looked through the Bible and liked that it had both the Old and New Testaments. His grandmother was interested in having a copy of S&H and even offered to pay for it. We gave away both books, for which they were very appreciative.
