Practical Spirituality for Young People

The Big Questions, Answered

Many young people are asking difficult questions, like:

  • With everything going on in the world today, how can I believe in God?
  • Where can I turn when I feel uncertain or powerless?
  • How do I find real healing when I’ve looked everywhere and tried everything?

The good news is that Christian Science gives us a mountain top view — a new perspective. It encourages us to look beyond surface appearances and explore the deeper, spiritual reality behind what we see — a reality based on Love, not fear. Through prayer and spiritual understanding, we begin to see evidences of God’s power and care in every part of life.

How Can Spirituality Be Practical?

Over two thousand years ago, Jesus proved that love conquers hate — and that divine law heals and restores. Whatever the challenge—whether it was stormy weather, incurable illness, or even death —Jesus found a practical solution through prayer. Christian Science continues that practice today, showing that the same divine Love that guided Jesus is available for everyone.

Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 494

In John, we read, “God is Love,” the greatest power in the world. The more we focus on God’s love, the more we will see it naturally expressed in our everyday experience. That’s practical spirituality.

Why Is It Called Christian Science?

Christian Science

Like any science, Christian Science is based on laws that can be practiced and demonstrated — just as Jesus proved. We can apply these divine laws to any challenge we’re facing — from health to relationships to careers — and find solutions. This may come as a healing, a fresh idea, or an answer to a question — whatever the need is.

How Do We Pray in Christian Science?

Prayer is quiet listening — opening our thought to feel God’s love and guidance.

You might:

  • Read an uplifting Bible passage.
  • Express gratitude for good already present.
  • Take a quiet moment to affirm God’s care.
  • Connect with your intuition. Mary Baker Eddy describes spiritual sense as “intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality.” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 298:13-15.

Through this spiritual sense, we can perceive God’s direction and experience healing every day.
