The Sunday School at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Irvine-Laguna Hills follows the The Mother Church Manual, Article XX in providing all students with a foundation of learning the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and the Lord’s Prayer. We expand that by providing grade specific lessons for children ranging from 3-4 year olds through college age students.
- The youngest students (pre-school and kindergarten) have also been working on the synonyms for God, introducing Bible characters, and identifying how their lives connect with qualities of God. Elementary grade students love to read, share experiences and watch videos from TMC about the Ten Commandments, Christ Jesus and the Bible.
- Middle Schoolers are identifying how the sections in the weekly Bible Lesson work together to provide a cohesive theme and specific message – and they look in each Lesson for examples of healing – primarily from Jesus. On a larger scale, they are studying the respective purposes of the Old Testament and the New Testament in the Bible, and also examining the spiritual interpretation of the Bible as provided in Science & Health by Mary Baker Eddy.
- Students in High School are learning about God at a deeper level and discussing how to apply these truths in their everyday lives to help friends, family, themselves and the world. They work on healing treatments and share their own personal experiences along with the experiences of others (from Camp, Sentinel articles, etc.).
- The College level class is more conversational with strong emphasis on healing — both at an individual and worldwide level (frequently drawn from current events) and addressed with the class’ understanding of the Bible and Science & Health.
