The SoCal churches are part of the worldwide Christian Science movement. The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.
Christian Science is a Christian religion based on the Bible and the teachings of Christ Jesus. It was founded by Mary Baker Eddy who wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures first published in 1875. The Tenets of Christian Science are all Bible-based.
Based on the teachings of Jesus
You will find that Christian Science is a scientific system of spiritual healing based on the teachings of Christ Jesus. Since the time of Jesus, Christians have turned to prayer for healing, not only of physical ailments, but of every kind of trouble. For several hundred years after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, his followers healed as Jesus did by relying on God alone to sustain their life, health and well-being. However, for various reasons, the practical elements of spiritual healing based on the laws of God became lost for nearly two thousand years.

While millions of people around the world continued to find solace and hope in the Bible, it wasn’t until 1866 that a woman in New England, Mary Baker Eddy, discovered what she called the “lost element of healing” in the teachings of Jesus. She explained her discovery in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which has brought healing to people of all faiths for over 100 years. She later established The Church of Christ, Scientist, which is designed in the words of its founder “to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Church Manual, p. 17)

If you are new to Christian Science, you will find our church services a quiet atmosphere for healing and spiritual growth. Sunday services include Scriptural selections and a weekly Bible Lesson composed of citations from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. There is always an inspirational solo and the congregation joins in singing hymns.
Testimonials of prayers answered
If you’re interested in healing, you are especially invited to attend Wednesday evening meetings, which include testimonials of healing given by the congregation each week. The meetings open with readings from the the Bible and Science and Health on topics that range from understanding God to raising children or healing physical problems.
Understanding God’s nature and man’s relationship to Him brings healing in our individual lives, as well as in the community and the world.
