Metaphysics and Christian Science
The following metaphysics statement comes from the Christian Science prayer book based on the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. It was written by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. It is a key statement in Christian Science healing because it helps lift thought above our physical person to our true nature as the image and likeness of God as described in Genesis 1:26 below.

Question — What is the scientific statement of being?
Answer — There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures p. 468:8-15
This statement comes from Chapter 14 “Recapitulation” which contains questions and answers on Christian Science and healing prayer.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
– Genesis 1:26

Food for thought from Science and Health

Sickness has been combated for centuries by doctors using material remedies; but the question arises, Is there less sickness because of these practitioners?
– Preface from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

“The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus’ time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural.” Preface
“In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry.” Chapter on Marriage
“The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, — a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love.” Chapter on Prayer
