The Foundation of Christian Science
At the heart of Christian Science is divine Love—not just as a comforting idea, but as the living, divine Principle that guides, heals, and uplifts. Mary Baker Eddy discovered this Science of Christianity through a deep study of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ, showing that divine Love is not abstract but practical and powerful.
Christian Science is based on love, and the life and healing work of Christ Jesus, whose message was filled with compassion, strength, and divine power. Jesus said:
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you… By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John 13:34–35
Mary Baker Eddy echoed this in her writings, calling us to “watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus.” In this practice of healing, we strive to live the spirit of Christ—to be just, merciful, pure, and loving in our daily lives.

What is Church?
Church in Christian Science is more than a building—it’s a spiritual idea and a healing presence. Its purpose is to uplift thought, awaken spiritual understanding, and demonstrate healing through divine Love.

Members participate by:
- Studying the weekly Bible Lesson
- Listening to its message at Sunday services
- Sharing gratitude and healing experiences at Wednesday testimony meetings
- Teaching and attending Sunday School
- Serving in Christian Science Reading Rooms, which are open to all
Mary Baker Eddy’s Discovery
Mary Baker Eddy’s discovery of Christian Science came through divine inspiration and years of searching the Scriptures. She wrote:
“I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God… but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration.” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 109:11-22
She showed that the spiritual laws behind Jesus’ healings were not miracles limited to the past, but rather part of a divine Principle still in operation today. That Principle—divine Love—brings freedom from fear, illness, and limitation.
Love in Action
Christian Science healing is not a theory—it’s a living, practical faith based on the power of Love. It continues to prove that divine Love is powerful and present in every moment. As Eddy wrote:
