Healing Testimony

As a freelancer, Chase found himself in urgent need of an employment solution. Despite actively searching for projects, the opportunities weren’t coming through, and discouragement began to build. Turning to prayer, Chase reflected on spiritual truths he had learned through Christian Science to find clarity and peace.

Realizing that his true sense of purpose and supply comes from God, Chase saw that his identity as God’s reflection included all the qualities needed for success. Watch the video to learn how this shift in thought led to new employment opportunities and a deeper sense of his spiritual identity.

I work as a freelancer, and it can be a real challenge to keep a steady flow of income. Sometimes, I’m overloaded with work, and other times, there’s a lull. And this is something that I pray about. I’ve found that acknowledging a deeper spiritual truth about my identity has a tangible effect on my experience.

On one occasion, I finished up a bunch of freelance projects and didn’t have any others lined up. And for a couple weeks, I wasn’t able to find work. So I took some time to reflect on and pray with some spiritual ideas, which are ideas that get to the fundamental nature of who we really are, which I believe is spiritual, something deeper than the physical experience that we seem to be having.

I prayed with a few specific ideas. I started from the premise that there is a fundamental good, which you could call God or source or intelligence, and that we, mankind, reflect that good, that that is our purpose, to express God-like qualities. 

And I knew that my sense of supply and my sense of purpose did not come from something external like a new job opportunity. I knew that both purpose and supply came from that source, God, that really my sense of supply was those qualities that we all express in our work, like diligence and creativity and care for one another.

These are ideas that I drew from my study of the Bible and a book called Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which really unlocks the meaning of the Bible in a way that is very practical. 

I’d been feeling a lot of fear and anxiety about not being able to find an opportunity. It felt like maybe I would never be able to find work again. Praying in this way, acknowledging that there is a source that I can rely on, something sustaining, that gave me a real sense of peace. 

After this shift in thought, acknowledging where my true sense of supply and purpose comes from, I had a shift in my experience. The very next day, a friend of a previous client reached out asking me to start work right away on a new project. And a couple days later, someone else reached out asking me to start work immediately.

So I just felt an overwhelming sense that my needs were being met and that I could move forward in expressing that spiritual identity that I’d gotten such a clear glimpse of. I’m grateful to have the knowledge of how to pray in this way. And I know that these are universal truths that anyone can start applying to their lives.
