Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
II Corinthians 9:15
What Makes a Grateful Thanksgiving Special?
Thanksgiving is a special time to stop and notice all the good in our lives. We often think of family, friends, favorite foods, and fun traditions. Those are wonderful blessings that make our hearts feel full. But the Bible reminds us that the deepest kind of thanks is even greater. The apostle Paul wrote, “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” He was talking about a gift so great that words can hardly describe it.
God’s Greatest Gift
What is this “unspeakable gift”? It is God’s love for everyone. God’s love never ends, never runs out, and never stops caring for us. This love assures us that we are always safe in God’s care. It brings comfort when we feel sad, strength when we face problems, and joy that doesn’t depend on things. God’s love is a gift we can feel every single day, making every day a grateful Thanksgiving.
How do we Live in Gratitude Every Day?
Being grateful is more than saying an occasional “thank you.” Gratitude is a way of seeing life. It helps us notice good things even when days are tough. When we remember that every good idea, every act of kindness, and every moment of peace comes from God, our hearts fill with joy. Even small blessings—a smile from a friend, a pretty sunset, or a helpful thought—show God’s love in action.

Christian Science teaches that understanding God’s love brings healing, and gratitude plays a big part in that healing. When we thank God, we admit that He is the source of all good. This opens our thoughts to see more of His care. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, wrote that real gratitude is more than words. It shows in what we do—being kind, patient, forgiving, and helpful.
Are we really grateful for the good already received? … Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 3:22–23, 25
How to Enjoy a Truly Grateful Thanksgiving
This Thanksgiving, you can practice gratitude no matter what is happening. Maybe you’re surrounded by family, or maybe you have a quiet day at home. Maybe this year has been exciting, or maybe it has brought challenges. Whatever the situation, God’s love is still with you. We can thank God for spiritual gifts like peace, honesty, courage, and happiness—gifts that never fade or stop.
How do we Turn Thanksgiving into a Way of Life?
Simple habits can change how you feel. Try starting every morning by thinking of one thing you are thankful for, and end each night by noticing another blessing from the day. This can bring more hope and healing to you and bless the people around you. A grateful Thanksgiving spirit can shine every day of the year.
As you gather for dinner, take a walk in the cool air, or spend time in quiet prayer, remember Paul’s words: “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” Let your gratitude grow beyond a list of things and reach toward the endless love God is always giving. When we do this, Thanksgiving becomes more than a holiday. It becomes a way of living every day—a truly grateful Thanksgiving that keeps blessing you and everyone you meet.
