Healing Testimony
Can spiritual vision lead to physical healing? For one longtime Christian Scientist, the answer is yes! In this inspiring Christian Science testimony, Christine shares how shifting her view of the world through prayerful work with the Christian Science Monitor improved her vision. As her spiritual perception grew clearer, so did her physical sight, including the need for corrective lenses, showing the connection between prayer and daily life.

Healed Through Spiritual Vision
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
For over 30 years, I wore either glasses or contact lenses. I have been practicing Christian Science for longer than that and have been taught to expect healing through prayer.
Not too long ago, I was driving to a meeting in the afternoon and had on my prescription sunglasses. Then, when I was returning home after dark, I realized I was seeing the street signs clearly. And I wondered what was going on and suddenly realized I didn’t have my sunglasses on, and I didn’t have any contact lenses either. And I thought, wow. This is terrific. I can see!
The next morning, to be sure it was really true, I went out to see if I could see the signs as clearly in the daytime. Well, I could. And I thought, how had this happened? And I began to make connections as to how this healing could have happened.
For about four years, I’ve been hosting discussion groups with the Christian Science Monitor. The Monitor is a newspaper owned by the Christian Science denomination, but it’s a secular newspaper. It’s well known. We read an article and then discuss the ideas that relate to world issues, for example, war, destruction, and displacement. We lift our thought from material objects to spiritual ideas. See Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 123:12.
I realized that from these discussions and thinking about how we view the world, I was also correcting my own vision of people. I was becoming less judgmental, less critical, and just more loving as a person. I realized I was gaining a clearer, more spiritual vision—not just of people, but of life itself.
For inspiration in my prayers, I discovered a verse in the Bible from Isaiah 32:3 that says, “The eyes of them that see shall not be dim.” Well, from a literal sense, of course, if you’re seeing something, it’s not obscured or dim, and yet from a spiritual perspective, it’s much deeper. It’s more of a mental perception of what we’re seeing.
I realized that my prayers from the Monitor group were having a distinct spillover in my daily life. I had an appointment with my optometrist, and about two years ago she told me that my eyes had improved quite a bit. And this was during the time I was hosting these groups. And so this past year, when I went back, she said, “You won’t need to have the restriction on your driver’s license when you go in to renew it this year.” And I was absolutely thrilled.
So I no longer have that prescription for glasses or contact lenses, thanks to the clarity and healing that came through spiritual vision. And what I was really grateful for was seeing the connection of praying for the world with our Christian Science Monitor articles and my daily life. I’m just very grateful for this experience and to see how prayers bring spiritual inspiration and healing.

More about healing
Discover how individuals have found freedom, joy, and healing through Christian Science—a spiritual approach that brings the presence of divine Truth and Love into every aspect of life, including physical healings.
Jesus showed us the power of God’s Love by healing all kinds of sickness and sin. He taught us to understand God as Spirit and use our spiritual vision to recognize everyone’s true nature as God’s children. Christian Science follows these Bible-based teachings, helping people around the world experience healing and peace.
For over 150 years, Christian Scientists have found comfort and healing through prayer—even in situations where solutions seemed limited or challenging. This type of prayer is more than just positive thinking; it’s grounded in faith, a deep understanding of our relationship to God, and the trust that with God, all things are possible.
Christian Scientists are free to choose the kind of care they feel is best. Many people rely on spiritual healing and live full, healthy lives without needing to turn to medicine. It’s a path guided by love, trust in God, and a desire to follow Christ’s example.
Mid-week Prayer Groups & Healing Testimonies
You are invited to join a prayer group on Wednesday at a Christian Science Church in Southern California or around the world. Community groups gather and explore a new healing prayer topic each week. Come find out how others are applying Christian Science in their lives at these testimony meetings.
At this service, you will hear readings from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. This healing book is a companion to the Bible, showing how healings were accomplished and how the same ideas can be applied to ourselves, our families, and the world. This meeting also includes hymns, prayer, and sharing personal stories of healing.
