A Christian Easter
Christian Easter is a time of joy, renewal, and spiritual awakening—a celebration of Christ’s victory over death. In Christian Science, Easter holds a deeper significance: it’s not only about Jesus’ resurrection but also about the understanding that God’s love is more powerful than anything, even death. Jesus’ triumph proves that we are spiritual beings, always cared for and sustained by God.
For three years, Jesus traveled with his followers, healing sickness, sin, and death, treating those who approached him with genuine compassion, and spreading God’s message of love and strength. Unfortunately, some saw his actions as a threat, and he was sentenced to death. Three days after his body was laid to rest, he demonstrated the true power of God over matter by returning from death triumphantly, completely whole. This resurrection is the foundation of Christian Easter and why we celebrate it today.
The Power of the Resurrection
Jesus’ followers did not believe it was possible for him to rise from the dead. He needed to demonstrate that the incredible healings he performed came directly from God and Jesus’ understanding of Him.
His resurrection was also their resurrection. It helped them to raise themselves and others from spiritual dulness and blind belief in God into the perception of infinite possibilities.
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 34:20–23
As Mary Baker Eddy explains, Jesus’ resurrection transformed how his disciples understood God. They had once believed that faith alone was enough, but after witnessing Jesus’ triumph over death, they realized that it was trust combined with spiritual understanding that enabled Jesus to heal so completely. With this new understanding, the disciples became powerful healers themselves, following in their Master’s footsteps.
The Great Proof of Truth and Love
After the resurrection, even the unbelieving Thomas was forced to acknowledge how complete was the great proof of Truth and Love.
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 24:32
Jesus’ resurrection demonstrated the power of God’s ever-present life and love. He proved that our true identity is spiritual, not limited by the material world. His victory over the cross revealed that sin, sickness, and even death have no real power over God’s creation. This profound truth is at the heart of Christian Easter and Christian Science, a teaching that Mary Baker Eddy explored and shared in her writings.
Christian Easter is more than a one-time event in history—it is a message of hope and healing for all time. Jesus showed that we can let go of fear and sadness, trusting God to guide and heal us. When we follow Jesus’ example of love, kindness, and faith, we feel God’s goodness in our lives.
This Easter, let’s celebrate by remembering that God’s love never ends. Each day brings a new beginning—a chance to experience the power of healing, renewal, and joy.
… within three days I will build another [temple] made without hands.

Healing and Easter: A Deeper Understanding
Healing is more than just removing symptoms from the body—it’s about overcoming fear and restoring peace in our lives and communities. Jesus’ healing work went beyond curing disease; he uplifted those struggling with fear, lack, and discontent, bringing comfort and provision where it seemed impossible. He fed multitudes, calmed storms, and taught people to see themselves as reflections of God’s love, compassion, and strength.
In a previous blog, we explored what it means to dwell in God’s Love. When we shift our focus to God’s spiritual qualities—both within ourselves and in the world around us—we experience true fulfillment, safety, and healing. Jesus’ resurrection is the ultimate proof that life in God is eternal, untouched by limitation or fear. This Easter, we can celebrate by deepening our trust in divine Love’s ever-present care, knowing that healing is not only possible—it is natural.
What Christian Easter Promises

No resurrection from the grave awaits Mind or Life, for the grave has no power over either.
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 291:25
While Christian Science churches don’t hold a special Easter service, attending a Sunday service in person or online on Easter morning offers an opportunity to sing of Easter gladness and celebrate the resurrection’s deeper meaning. Christian Easter reminds us of what Jesus’ resurrection proved: that no challenge—no matter how great—is stronger than God’s power and love.
Jesus demonstrated this through his many healings, overcoming sin, sickness, and even death with an active understanding of God’s truth. His life and resurrection show us that we, too, can find strength, healing, and joy when we trust in God’s ever-present care. This Easter, we can carry that promise forward in our own lives, embracing the hope and renewal it brings.
